Dubai: Five-time German champions Borussia Munchengladbach will conduct a seven-day mid-season training camp in Dubai next week during which they will play three friendly matches including one against a local club.

The team will arrive on Saturday, January 5 and depart on January 12.

A full-time structured week of activities has been organised by the club’s officials, with the three warm-up games being the main highlight of the Dubai camp.

Besides the game against a yet to be named Dubai club, Borussia are scheduled to play fellow Bundesliga club Hamburger SV on January 9 and Eintracht Frankfurt on January 11, prior to flying back to Dusseldorf. Both friendly games are scheduled for a 7pm kick-off at the Dubai Sevens stadium.

During their Dubai stay, key representatives from both Borussia and the Bundesliga will hold press conferences.

Borussia, who were founded in 1900, are eighth in the league after six wins from 17 matches, while Bayern Munich are the table toppers with 13 wins from the same number of games.

Among the star players in the squad is striker Marco Reus, who enjoyed a successful 2012 season when he scored 18 goals to help Borussia secure a place in the this year’s UEFA Champions League.

While sport-specific and general training programmes are a prominent part of the team’s Dubai schedule, their stay has also been tailored to cater for social events like a dinner at Bab Al Shams and a studio visit to the Dubai Sports Council, the organisers of the event.

Borussia follow in the footsteps of German giants Bayern, who previously held winter camps in Dubai, while star-studded AC Milan and Manchester United have also camped in the emirate during the winter break.
