Istanbul: Turkish giants Galatasaray have recruited one of the chief architects of Nice’s recent rise with the signature of Moroccan international midfielder Younes Belhanda on a four-year deal Friday.

The 27-year-old was on the books at Dynamo Kiev but spent last year on loan at Nice, helping the Ligue 1 side achieve the club’s best finish since 1976 to qualify for the Champions League.

He made his name as part of Montpellier’s French title-winning team in 2012, playing alongside Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, and has been capped 32 times by Morocco.

The Istanbul outfit signed French striker Bafetimbi Gomis on Thursday as a summer spending spree takes shape after finishing fourth in the Super Lig last season, well behind champions and city rivals Besiktas.

The result was unacceptable for fans of Galatasaray, who have won more Turkish championships than any other club.
