Dubai: Former Australian national football team captain Craig Moore, who was arrested in Dubai on Wednesday, was yesterday released on bail pending a court hearing tomorrow, Gulf News has learnt.

The 34-year-old retired Socceroo was arrested after being involved in an alleged drunken altercation with police.

The former central defender, who played at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, spent most of his professional career with the Scottish club Rangers. He played 52 times for Australia.

This is not the first time Moore has had a run-in with the law.

In December 2008, he was reportedly involved in a gambling scandal along with fellow footballers Kevin Muscat and Grant Brebner.

Yesterday, a spokesperson from Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade admitted that they had assisted a 34-year-old man from Queensland after he had been taken into police custody.

Dubai Police were unable to confirm the incident.
