Madrid: Celta Vigo was held by Valladolid to 0-0 at home in the Spanish league on Friday.

Celta remained in the relegation zone at one point from safety before the rest of this round over the weekend. Valladolid stayed in 14th place.

Celta’s Santi Mina had a great opportunity to grab a 90th-minute winner when he met a cross free of a marker in the center of the area, only for his shot to go wide. Valladolid goalkeeper Jordi Masip saved shots by Iago Aspas, Nestor Araujo, and Pione Sisto before halftime.

The most serious threat by the visitors came early on from Pablo Hervias. Goalie Serio Alvarez parried his strike with one hand.

“We got into their area several times, but the shots wouldn’t go in, above all mine in the first half. It just wasn’t to be,’’ Aspas said. “The point is good, but it is too bad we couldn’t take all three.’’

Despite having a squad with several talented attacking players, Celta had only three wins through 15 rounds. It fired coach Fran Escriba at the beginning of this month.
