Dubai: The season has come to an end for the Al Wahda right wingback Fahad Masoud, who was handed a three-match suspension and a Dh5,000 fine by the FA Tournaments Committee for an obscene gesture in the league match against Fujairah in Abu Dhabi last Thursday.

Masoud will miss Al Wahda's three crucial league matches against Al Ahli, Dubai and Al Nasr, which will decide the team's fate in the title race. Al Wahda are topping the standings with 39 points.

He was issued marching orders by referee Ali Al Mulla at the start of the second session after assistant referee pointed to the referee, during the interval, about the gesture against one of the supporters watching the match.

Breaks down

The UAE national team player vouched not to have committed the error and broke down in tears after he was given the marching orders.

Abdullah Saleh, the Al Wahda team manager, calmed him down and told him to take it easy.

"One of the supporters insulted my family, but I didn't respond to him. I was just going to the stand to see my father, who was sitting among the Al Wahda supporters. I didn't do what the assistant referee thought I'm doing.

"All the people knows Fahad Masoud and my good manners inside the ground and outside it. I am not the kind of player who could behave in a manner the assistant referee thought of me," said an unpleasant Masoud.
