Al Jazira, Al Ain enter semifinals
Dubai: Al Jazira has become the first team to qualify for the etisalat Cup semifinals after beating Al Wasl for the second time in seven days. The win put Al Jazira on top of group B with 12 points from four matches. They are yet to lose a match.
The 4-1 win in Dubai follows last Wednesday's 4-0 dubbing of Al Wasl in Abu Dhabi. Al Wasl playing at home in Dubai scored first through Brazilian Alexander Oliviera in the 22 minute. The first half ended in a 1-1 draw.
Brazilian Fernando Baiano equalised for Al Jazira from the spot in the 34th minute. The same player scored the second in the 71st minute, while midfielder Sultan Barghash scored the third and fourth goals for Al Jazira in the 80th and 82nd minute.
Al Wasl defender Ali Mahmoud was issued marching orders in the last minute of the match.
Al Ain became the second team to secure a berth in the etisalat Cup semifinals after defeating Al Nasr 2-1 at the Al Maktoum stadium on Tuesday night.
Al Ain topped group C with 10 points from four matches, while Al Nasr has lost hope of qualifying.
In the other matches, Al Ahli defeated Ajman 4-0 to stay in second place of group C with seven points.
Al Wahda topped group A with 10 points.
