Dubai: Al Ahli defender Yousuf ‘Dodo’ Mohammad will become the first Lebanese footballer to play in France after agreeing to join Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in January, according to the Lebanese press.

A close personal source to Mohammad announced on Friday that the 32-year-old had reached an agreement with the Qatari-owned club and would join in the next available transfer window. Neither Al Ahli nor PSG have officially confirmed the move.

It was said that Mohammad, who joined Al Ahli on a two-year deal at the beginning of last season, had been in contact with three clubs in Europe and one in Asia ahead of the expiry of his current contract next summer.

Mohammad played for seven years in Germany’s Bundesliga with Freiburg and Cologne between 2004 and 2011 after starting his career in Lebanon with Safa and Olympic Beirut from 1999 to 2004.

So far he has scored three goals in 26 appearances with Al Ahli and was instrumental in the club’s Etisalat Cup triumph last season under Spanish coach Quique Sanchez Flores. With Lebanon, Mohammad has scored two in 41 appearances since breaking through to the national side in 2000.

PSG, managed by Carlo Ancelloti and featuring the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, are currently top of the French first division with six wins and four draws in 10 matches. They are also second in their Champions League group following two wins and a loss in three games.
