Dubai: When life gives you a fractured toe, make pizza—at least that’s the mantra Rishabh Pant seems to be following.

The flamboyant India wicketkeeper-batter, sidelined after injuring his toe during the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, has taken up a new hobby: cooking. In a social media video, Pant tried his hand at a vegetarian pizza, complete with a humorous Italian accent and playful commentary.

First try with cooking

“I’m looking like a chef only. Today I’m gonna show you how to make pizza… I love vegetarian, but I don’t know how to put the truffle, man. It’s very hot in here, boys. That’s the only thing I can do with a broken foot right now. My mother must be thinking I’ve never cooked anything at home but I’m making pizzas here,” Pant said.

Pant’s culinary exploits come after a memorable England series, where he battled both form and injury. He fractured his toe on Day 1 of the fourth Test while attempting a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes, yet returned on Day 2 to resume his innings on 37, eventually scoring a vital half-century.

Etching his name in history

Across the four-Test series, Pant scored 479 runs at an average of 68.42, including two centuries and three fifties. He also etched his name in history as only the second wicketkeeper-batter to score centuries in both innings of a Test match during the series opener at Headingley. His performances were pivotal in stabilizing India’s middle order and providing crucial runs under pressure.

Pant is expected to be out of action for several months, making him a significant absence for India’s home Test season in October-November. For now, fans can enjoy seeing a different side of the swashbuckling star—his pizza-making experiments, proving he’s as entertaining off the field as he is on it.
