Staging third round of ICC Intercontinental Cup
Sharjah: Sharjah Cricket Stadium, which entered The Guinness Book of World Records recently for hosting a world record number of One Day International matches, will further extend its tally by staging the third round of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Intercontinental Cup.
The venue, which recently staged its 201st one-day match by hosting the fourth match of the Pakistan-Sri Lanka series, will swell its tally to 203 matches soon.
Home venue
The ICC has allotted the UAE-Scotland Intercontinental Cup four-day match from February 16 to 19 and two one-dayers between the sides as part of the event on March 8 and 10, while Afghanistan will also use the venue for their Intercontinental Cup match and two one-dayers against the Netherlands in March and April next year.
However, the UAE's two one-day matches will not have One Day International status as the UAE is yet to officially reach that standard.
Since both Afghanistan and the Netherlands have one-day status, their two matches as part of the Intercontinental Cup on March 29 and March 31 will be considered One Day Internationals.
Afghanistan have been using Sharjah as their home venue for the last two years following security threats in their country.
The Netherlands, after playing the two one-day matches, will then compete in a four-day Intercontinental Cup from April 2 to April 5.
