Abu Dhabi: India’s Rohit Sharma is set to become the first Indian cricket team player to throw the ceremonial ‘first pitch’ during a baseball match in the United States of America.

Rohit, who led Mumbai Indians in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL), will be doing the honours for American Major League baseball (MLB)  club Seattle Mariners at their home ground of Safeco Field around 1am IST on Sunday. It is a part of a pre-game activity ahead of Seattle’s match against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The baseball league in America has a historic ritual inviting a guest of honour to throw out a ceremonial first pitch to mark the start of the game.

Sharma, managed by IMG Reliance Talent Management, is on a three-city US tour as part of ‘Desh — Legends of Cricket Series’. Rohit will be visiting San Francisco/Bay Area, Seattle and Los Angeles where the Indian cricketer will participate in a series of cricket clinics and fan meet-and-greets.
