Ex-UAE coach launches grassroots programme with Chanderpaul, Ambrose and top Indian pacers
Dubai: Former UAE and India coach Robin Singh is set to begin a new chapter in Dubai with the launch of the RSR Cricket Academy, a purpose-driven initiative aimed at transforming grassroots cricket in the region.
This marks Robin’s third major stint in the UAE, where he plans to instill professional discipline and modern coaching methods at the junior level. “This is a mission to create a system where every talented child has the chance to grow without barriers,” said Robin Singh, Founder and Chief Mentor. “With structured coaching, match exposure, and international pathways, RSR will prepare cricketers for the global stage.”
Backed by strategic partnerships in India and England, the academy boasts a world-class coaching panel comprising former India cricketers Lakshmipathy Balaji, Thiru Kumaran and Debashish Mohanty, along with West Indies legends Curtly Ambrose and Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Top trainers like Ramji Srinivasan, who worked with India’s 2011 World Cup-winning team, and Tanveer will also be involved.
Robin, who has led both national and franchise teams to glory — most notably the Mumbai Indians — has personally designed the academy’s analytics-based curriculum. “This is not a names-only venture. We’re here for real grassroots development, not out of necessity,” he said, emphasising that he will oversee every detail of the programme alongside his team.
A standout feature of the academy is its “Play More, Train Less” model. Players will get weekly practice matches and will be encouraged to compete in intra- and inter-school tournaments to develop real-match temperament. “No tall promises, just simple cricket,” said Robin. “Every school with cricket facilities can partner with RSR under my guidance.”
Integrated technology will allow players and parents to track performance metrics and view match videos in real time, bringing transparency and personalised feedback into the system.
The academy will also roll out an ambitious scholarship programme to support promising young players. It includes free training and equipment, placement opportunities in international clubs, and fully funded academic and cricket scholarships in England. Tie-ups with UAE schools will ensure students don’t miss classes, with school bus services arranged for safe transportation.
Following a soft launch in Chennai, the official Dubai inauguration is scheduled for mid-August 2025, with several high-profile cricket figures expected to attend. Registrations open on August 10, and sessions are set to begin on September 1.
