Dubai: Samit Dravid, the elder son of Indian cricket legend Rahul Dravid, went unsold at the players' auction for the upcoming Maharaja Trophy T20 tournament, organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) on Tuesday.

The tournament is scheduled to be held behind closed doors from August 11 to 27.

Samit, an all-rounder who plays junior-level cricket in Karnataka, was selected for India’s U19 squad for the home series against Australia in 2024. However, an injury ruled him out before the series, forcing him into rehab at the National Cricket Academy.

In the previous edition, he represented the Mysuru Warriors, having been picked for Rs 50,000. He featured in seven matches, scoring 82 runs in the middle order at a strike rate of 114, though he did not bowl during the tournament.

At this year’s auction, Indian international Devdutt Padikkal emerged as the most expensive player, going to the Hubli Tigers for Rs1.32 million. He was followed by Abhinav Manohar and Manish Pandey, who were snapped up for Rs1.22 million each by the Hubli Tigers and Mysuru Warriors, respectively.

Among bowlers, pacer Vidwath Kaverappa was a top pick, acquired by the Shivamogga Lions for Rs1.08 million. The Bengaluru Blasters also invested heavily in their bowling unit, securing Vidyadhar Patil for Rs830,000—highlighting the premium placed on wicket-taking options this season, according to a KSCA press release.
