Dubai: Defending champions Islamabad United rode on Sahibzada Farhan’s century to clinch their second successive win in the Pakistan Super League on Monday. Farhan’s 106 off 52 balls propelled United to a massive 243 for five, and in reply, Peshawar Zalmi faltered to a 102-run defeat — their second loss in Season 10 of the PSL.

Mohammad Haris’ 47-ball 87 was the lone highlight of Zalmi’s innings against an inspired United bowling attack led by Imad Wasim, who returned figures of three for 26. The left-arm spinner was well supported by the rest of the attack, including Naseem Shah and Shadab Khan (2 for 29), as Zalmi were dismissed for 141 in 18.2 overs.

Farhan, Munro build huge platform

Electing to bat first, United went on the offensive early, scoring 73 in the powerplay with Farhan leading the charge. The right-hander was severe on under-19 pacer Ali Raza, taking 22 runs in one over. He and Colin Munro added a 144-run stand for the second wicket before both fell in the 14th over to West Indian pacer Alzarri Joseph.

However, the damage had already been done, and United were well on their way to a mammoth total. Salman Agha and Jason Holder added the finishing touches, helping the team reach 243 for five in 20 overs.

Early blows derail Zalmi chase

In response, Zalmi lost Babar Azam in the second over, followed soon after by the promising Saim Ayub — who had scored a half-century in the previous game. Their early dismissals left Zalmi facing an uphill task in what proved to be an insurmountable chase.
