Maloo's spell helps Air India fly past NMC

Piyush Maloo produced one of the finest match-winning spells in domestic cricket to destroy fancied New Medical Centre (NMC) in the Ten Sports 30th Bukhatir League at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Maloo's spell of 4 for 17, well supported by Vijay Singh (3 for 31) and Mohammed Hyder (2 for 6), virtually ran through the NMC batting line-up.

The were shot out for a paltry 92 in 31 overs.

Vijay Mehra, a former UAE player, who had played many gutsy knocks in domestic cricket, displayed his ability with the bat again. He scored a fighting 41. NMC's destruction began with Kaif Ghaury being trapped leg before by Vijay Singh.

Piyush bowled Taher for 7. Saqib Ali and Zoysa quickly fell to Vijay Singh.

Sandeep Dhuri fell leg before for 5 to Piyush and NMC crashed to 20 for 5. But for Mehra's 41, NMC would have been shot out before the 50-run mark. Air India began badly. Imtiaz sent back Abbas and Vijay Singh while Adnan was bowled by Aslam.

Air India were in trouble at 33 for 3, but Bakhtiar (31) and Mohd Hyder (19n.o) steered their team past the target.

In the Dubai Summer Cup, Nucaf Tellicherry scored an easy nine wicket win over American University of Dubai (AUD) at the DCC ground.

AUD were shot out for 124 through excellent bowling from Hitesh (2 for 26) and Mashood (2 for 2).

Nucaf lost Ajeer to Abhinav off the very first ball but unbeaten knock from Manoj 62 (30b, 1x6, 10x4) and Shajil 64 (26 b, 14x4) steered Tellicherry to a nine-wicket win.

Jairaj Thakur, one of the most experienced cricket coaches and a prolific scorer in domestic cricket, will conduct a coaching camp from June 26 at the Bhatia Ground nets behind Al Wasl Hospital.

Thakur holds Australian and Asian Cricket Council certificates for coaching. From the camp 15 boys will be selected for a two-week tour of Sri Lanka from August 14 to 28.
