Says West Indies need to introduce a better system by strengthening domestic game
Dubai : Clive Lloyd, the former West Indies skipper has tipped England to win the final today.
"England have the chance to win the final. It is nice to see an England-Australia final in Twenty20 World Cup," Lloyd told Gulf News from St Lucia.
"The winner of the final may finally be determined by which team believes in itself more.
"The teams which get into the final reach there by playing good cricket.
"As I often say that this game is very much to be played neck upwards," Lloyd, who is a commentator for the Dubai-based Cricket Radio, said.
No changes
Lloyd has enjoyed every moment of the Twenty20 World Cup hosted by his country.
"I cannot think of any changes in the format of this tournament as the international calendar is very limited.
"As it stands now the World Cup is a short and sharp event," Lloyd, who is also chairman of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Cricket Committee that plans and introduces changes to the game, said.
When asked about West Indies failing to reach the final of the World Cup despite being held on their home soil, Lloyd said: "The West Indies Cricket Board needs to put up a better system by setting up academies and strengthening their domestic cricket."
Does he believe that West Indies is relying too much on Chris Gayle?
"I do agree but he is the best One-day player and it is natural for the team to rely on him a lot.
"However, remember that cricket is a team game," Lloyd, who had captained West Indies to two consecutive triumphs in the 50-over World Cup in England, said.
He commented on the Indian team after watching them lose to West Indies and also Sri Lanka.
"[The] Indian team needed a break after the Indian Premier League as they played continuous cricket for 45 days," he said.
