Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli’s wife, Andrea Hewitt, has candidly shared the struggles of their relationship, highlighting Kambli’s battle with alcohol addiction and its impact on their family life.

In a recent podcast interview with freelance journalist Suryanshi Pandey, Andrea revealed how Kambli’s alcoholism led to significant challenges, including multiple stints in rehabilitation—at least 14 times. She admitted to filing for divorce in 2023 but withdrew it after witnessing Kambli’s vulnerable state.

“I thought about separating, but I realised he would be helpless if I left him. He is like a child, and that hurts me. I couldn’t even leave a friend, and he’s much more than that,” she shared.

Andrea recounted moments of emotional turmoil when she would walk away, only to return out of concern for Kambli’s well-being. “There were times I’d walk away, but then I’d worry—has he eaten? Is he okay? I’d come back to check on him and see that he needed me,” she added.

The couple, who married in a private civil ceremony in 2006, has faced public scrutiny over the years. Andrea, a former model, has managed to navigate the strain on their relationship while raising their two children, Jesus Christiano and Johanna.

She praised her son Christiano for being her emotional support during Kambli’s health crises. “He understood everything without troubling me—he read my emotions and stood by me,” she said.

Kambli opens up about health scare

Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli recently revealed that he was diagnosed with brain clots during a medical examination. The 52-year-old shared his ordeal in a conversation with YouTuber Vicky Lalwani, recounting a distressing experience that left him in urgent need of medical care.

“I was suffering from a urine problem—it was flowing uncontrollably,” Kambli explained. “My son, Jesus Cristiano, picked me up when I collapsed. My 10-year-old daughter and my wife came rushing to help. My head started spinning, and I fell. The doctor advised me to get admitted immediately.”

History of Health Challenges

This isn’t the first time Kambli has faced serious health issues. In 2013, he collapsed while driving after suffering multiple heart attacks. His wife quickly rushed him to the hospital, where he underwent surgeries to save his life.

Reflecting on that period, Kambli expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of his childhood friend and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. “We’ve known each other since we were very young. Sachin did everything for me. He helped me a lot. I underwent two operations at Lilavati Hospital in 2013, and he took care of it all. He even paid for both my surgeries and supported me financially,” Kambli shared.

Despite his challenges, Kambli continues to push forward with the support of his family and friends, stressing the importance of staying positive during tough times.
