England are 21 for no loss with Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett at the crease
Rishabh Pant made history by becoming the first Indian batsman to score centuries in both innings of a Test match against England. His efforts, however, were not enough to prevent a strong English comeback, as the hosts were set a target of 371 to win the series opener at Headingley on Monday.
England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett safely navigated a testing six-over spell late in the day, guiding their team to 21-0 at stumps. They now need 350 more runs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
Pant, known for his aggressive batting, followed his first-innings 134 with a 130-ball century in the second innings, hitting 13 fours and two sixes before being dismissed for 118. His partnership of 195 runs with KL Rahul turned the game in India’s favor after they were struggling at 92-3.
Rahul went on to score 137, but from a strong position at 333-4, India collapsed dramatically, losing their last six wickets for just 31 runs. They were bowled out for 364, with fast bowler Josh Tongue wreaking havoc by taking three wickets in four balls.
