Southee the fourth to take 7 wickets in event, McCullum tops his own record
* Tim Southee’s 7/33 is the best bowling by a Kiwi in One Day Internationals, bettering the previous best of 6/19 by Shane Bond vs India at Bulawayo in 2005.
* He becomes the ninth bowler in ODIs to take seven or more wickets in an innings, joining three Pakistanis, two Australians, two Sri Lankans and one West Indian on the list. The best bowling remains with Sri Lankan Chaminda Vaas, who took 8/19 against Zimbabwe at SSC, Colombo, in December 2001.
* Southee is the fourth bowler to take a seven-wicket haul in World Cups after West Indian Winston Davis (7/51 vs Aus at Leeds in 1983) and Australians Glenn McGrath (7/15 vs Namibia at Potchefstroom in 2003) and Andy Bichel (7/20 vs England at Port Elizabeth also in 2003)
* England’s 123 is their third lowest in all World Cups. The lowest remains the 93 they made against Australia at Leeds in the 1975 semi-final.
* Brendon McCullum’s 50 in 18 balls is the quickest in World Cup history. He also held the previous record after his 20-ball effort against Canada at St Lucia in 2007.
* McCullum’s 50 is also the third fastest in ODI history, which he shares with four other batsmen. Only A.B. de Villiers (16 balls vs West Indies at Johannesburg in January 2015) and Sanath Jayasuriya (17 balls vs Pakistan at Singapore in April 1996) have bettered it.
* Engand’s defeat with 226 balls to spare equals their worst ever ODI performance. They lost by a similar margin against Australia at the SCG in January 2003.
* New Zealand have now beaten England in their last five World Cup meetings going back to 1983. Previously, England had won the first three encounters.
