Abu Dhabi: Jonathan Figy seems to have picked up from where he left off last season. He slammed an unbeaten century to script a 144-run win for Abu Dhabi Indian School over Model School in their opening game of the UAE Xchange U19 Abu Dhabi School League.

The left-handed batsman scored over 2,000 runs in all competitions last season and made it to the UAE Under-19 national team for the ICC U10 World Cup Qualifier Asia Division Two in Kuala Lumpur in September.

Figy smashed 113 not out off 72 balls, highlighted by 18 fours and a couple of sixes, and shared a 119-run stand for the opening wicket with Akhilesh Ramesh (48) for ADIS to amass 214 for one.

Model, in reply, were shot out for 70 with Sailles Jaishankar doing most of the damage at the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council Nursery Oval-2.

The medium pacer struck thrice in his opening spell to leave Model reeling at four wickets for eight runs, and wrapped up the inning in his second spell to return with excellent figures of 4-1-8-5.

The Cambridge High School eased to a nine-wicket win over New Indian Model School-Al Ain to notch their second win in the competition at the adjoining Oval-1.

Electing to field first, the five-time champions restricted NIMS-Al Ain to 86 for nine with all six of their bowlers who were tried claiming a wicket each and three run outs.

Abhishek Prakash (35 not out) and Justin D’Souza (32 not out) then shared a 71-run partnership for the second wicket without being separated to see them through with more than six overs to spare.

In an Under-16 match, Haji ur Rahman smashed a 39-ball 96 not out for Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Pakistan School to get their title defence off to a flying start with a 123-run win over Emirates Future International.

Haji thumped half-a-dozen sixes and seven fours after arriving at the crease when his team was struggling at 56 for five in the 11th over. He also added 123 an unfinished 123 for the seventh wicket with Mohammad Hamza (20no). Mohammad Ibad was the pick of the bowlers for Shaikh Khalifa with five for 11 from three overs.
