Chopra and Totadri mount a massive partnership to beat Emirates English Speaking School
Sharjah: Dubai Modern High School's Shorye Chopra cracked a brilliant unbeaten century backed by Varun Totadri to stop Emirates English Speaking School (EESS) by 119 runs in the semifinal of the Sharjah Cricket Council Under-16 inter school cricket tournament.
Dubai Modern will now meet Delhi Private School (DPS), Sharjah who beat Indian High School by 32 runs. The final is to be held today at the Sharjah Stadium from 9am.
Chopra, who has played a pivotal role in Dubai Modern's journey to the final through his consistent knocks, hit an unbeaten 123 off just 59 balls studded with 17 boundaries and two sixes.
Totadri provided excellent support to Chopra with 72 runs and together they thrashed the EESS bowling to put on a 192-run partnership. Speaking to Gulf News after the huge partnership, Totadri said:
"It was great to be involved with Chopra in one of the biggest partnerships for our school. We have been involved in many partnerships before but this was timely and the best."
Left-handed
Chopra too complemented left-handed Totadri's knock. Incidentally, Totadri is a fine left-arm orthodox spinner too and has bowled his school to many victories. Chasing the huge target, EESS could only muster 108 for 7.
DPS made it to the final mainly through Aakarsh Malhotra's unbeaten 69 runs. Aagam Shah hit 28 runs with in form Siddarth Sekhar scoring 22 runs and helped DPS pile up 160 for 3. Indian High was restricted to 128 for 6 with Sekhar once again sparkling with the ball taking two wickets. Harsheshi Gokari top scored with 32 runs but his school fell short of the target.
