Dubai: Ace Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag is the latest sports figure to find his marriage under scrutiny. The legendary opener is reportedly ending his 20-year marriage to wife Aarti Ahlawat. The couple has been living separately for months, with reports suggesting that divorce was imminent.

Speculation grows after social media activity

The rumours intensified after Sehwag unfollowed Aarti on Instagram, while she set her profile to private. Their growing distance was evident late last year when Sehwag posted a picture of himself celebrating Diwali with his elder son and his mother, notably excluding his wife and younger son from the photo.

Sehwag, the only Indian batter to score two triple centuries, married his childhood love Aarti in 2004. The couple has two sons, Aryaveer, born in 2007, and Vedant, born in 2010.

Born in New Delhi in 1980, Aarti Ahlawat, the daughter of Suraj Singh Ahlawat, a prominent advocate, earned a Diploma in Computer Science from Delhi University.

A trend among cricketers

Sehwag and Aarti’s situation mirrors recent speculation surrounding other cricketers. Yuzvendra Chahal and YouTuber Dhanashree Verma, as well as former Indian batter Manish Pandey and his wife, model-turned-actress Ashrita Shetty, have all seen similar media attention.

Pandey and Shetty unfollowed each other on Instagram, with Ashrita reportedly deleting all photos of Pandey months ago. The cricketer recently followed suit by removing pictures of his wife from his account. This development adds to the growing trend of speculation about cricketers’ personal lives.
