'Butcher' Faisan sets Twenty20 batting record

Umm Al Quwain: His teammates call him 'Butcher' Faizan due to his aggressive style of batting and he lived upto his nickname in the Umm Al Quwain Twenty20 tournament.

Opening the innings, Faizan Azim of Emirates Islamic Bank hit an unbeaten 172 off just 65 balls studded with 14 sixes and 17 boundaries against Dubai Indians to record the highest individual score in a Twenty20 match in UAE's domestic tournament.

"It was my day and I went for my shots and I am delighted I connected everything," remarked Faizan, who hails from Sialkot in Pakistan, to Gulf News.

Hat-trick

"I joined this bank nearly one and half years ago and has hit many quick knocks but this is my highest score," added Faizan, who got good support from Azhar Gul, who scored an unbeaten 100. Together they helped Emirates Islamic Bank record a whopping 335 for 1 and restricted Dubai Indians to 149.

In the Sharjah Invitation League tournament final, Nucaf Tellicherry defeated Khatri Cricket Club by one wicket. Gopal Jasapara, who is in top form this season and went on to bag the player of the tournament award, steered Tellicherry to victory with a fighting 43.

Jasapara won the award scoring 396 runs which included an unbeaten 142 against Indo Star XI. He had also bagged a hat-trick against KGM XI.

Equally impressive was left-arm spinner CTK Mashood, who destroyed the Khatri batting taking three wickets for 22 runs. He also got support from Rajesh and Shiju, who took three wickets each to restrict Khatri to 144. Umair, with a three wicket spell, and Adnan taking two wickets, almost bowled Khatri to victory but Jasapara along with Manoj (33) and Mahesh (34) ensured their team's victory with two balls to spare.
