Dubai: Bikramjeet Singh, who recently bagged the best junior cricketer of the year award, extended his brilliant form from last season to help Sherwood Private Academy, Abu Dhabi to an emphatic eight-wicket win over Emirates Future International Academy (Efia), Abu Dhabi in the Max Talent Pepsi Vision Cup Under-17 inter school tournament.|
Singh, who had scored over 300 runs for the school from four matches to bag the prestigious award, hit 37 runs to overcome Efia's score of 123 in 22 overs. Sherwood won the match in 20.2 overs with Mohammad Riyaz too chipping in with 25 runs.
Efia skipper Vaishakh had top scored with 32 runs but his knock went in vain. Interestingly, for the first time an inter-school tournament has shifted its base to suit both teams.
Though the tournament was held in Sharjah, the organisers staged the match in Abu Dhabi Cricket Council grounds as both teams were from the capital.
Rise of talents
In another match, New Indian High School from Umm Al Quwain defeated Dubai's St Mary's Catholic School by 115 runs to prove the rise of the talents from this region.
St Mary's won the toss and elected to field and New Indian School batsmen went for the runs from the start.
Opener Mohammad Usman hit 55 off just 31 balls with six four and two sixers and scored 192 for 8 in 25 overs. If not for Imaad Baig, who took four wickets for 24 runs, New Indian School may have crossed the 200 run mark.
