A dejected Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly admitted that they were outplayed by Australia in all departments of the game.

"Australia performed well and we were beaten in all departments of the game. We need to pull up our socks with regard to our batting," said Ganguly.

When asked what actually went wrong after winning the toss, Ganguly said: "We did everything right except putting runs on the board."

Ganguly also justified his decision to bat first. "It was a good wicket to bat on except that we did not apply ourselves," he said.

Despite the demoralising defeat, Ganguly is not giving up hope. "We still have lots of cricket left in this series as we have four more games to go. We need to win them to go into the super six. But it is also important we carry some points when going into the super six," he reminded.

Australian skipper Ricky Ponting praised his pacers for the victory. "Our pacers bowled well with the new ball and put them under pressure. We maintained the pressure throughout the match," he said.

Ponting also praised his fielders especially Andrew Symonds for the wonderful catch he took of Mohammed Kaif.

"Symonds is a great fielder. Overall our fielding has been very good and today's outfield was a fantastic one to field," he said.
