Dubai: "UAE has excellent lighting system for day-night Test matches," remarked Dilawar Mani, the chief executive of the Emirates Cricket Board to Gulf News.

"Abu Dhabi and Dubai are ideal for day-night Test matches as we have ensured that the best lighting is available. At the Zayed international cricket stadium we have four towers and each tower has 160 bulbs and each bulb has 2,000 volts. It is the best lighting that can be available for a day-night match," said Mani.

"Dubai international cricket stadium too has the best lighting available so both the stadiums will be ideal if pink ball is being used for day-night Test matches.

Great success

"The four-day day-night matches played in white clothing and pink ball between MCC, Durham and Nottinghamshire were a great success and no issues emerged out of it. We are thankful to Dave Richardson for acknowledging our facilities here," he said.

Dubai stadium which has the ring of fire too produces the most modern and best lighting among the international stadiums in the world.

"Each tower at Zayed Stadium emits 3,20,000 volts of light and so close to one million and 280,000 volts will be available for the whole stadium at night. This is close to 2,000 lux. Dubai and Abu Dhabi has such powerful lighting," said Mani.

Dew factor

Talking about the dew factor, Mani said: "Dew factor comes into play only after 8pm and sometimes even 10pm depending on the period when the matches are going to be held.

"In December the dew factor might be high but in other months it is very favourable," said Mani.

"Day-night Test matches will be a huge success as people will be able to enjoy the contest after office hours without losing a day," he said.
