Contrasting victories for Beach Rotana
Abu Dhabi: Beach Rotana posted contrasting victories in week 8 and 9 of the PIC de Vere Abu Dhabi squash league being played here.
Beach Rotana, who have been enjoying their stay at the top for a long time, had it tough in week 8.
Sheraton stretched them the distance before the leaders won 14-13.
However in last week's 9th round, Beach Rotana had it easy with a 20-4 win over Adma-One.
Beach Rotana continue to lead Division One with 169 points, a lead of over 50 points from the second-placed Sheraton. Zadco and Gasco are the current leaders of Division Two and Three respectively.
Apart from their loss to the leaders, Sheraton were again at the receiving end.
The Club Reds scored a 16-8 win to move up into third place behind the two hotel teams and ahead of Adco-One.
Tomlins shines
Stars for the Club-Reds were Martin Tomlins, Mike Merrifield and Zoe Rickaby. The trio scored identical 3-0 victories over Jamal Boshor, Marouk Al Nahdy and Stelios Papadupoulos respectively.
Sheraton's points came through Shuan Wedick and Andre Al Ghawi who overcame Adrian Shambler and David Ringrose with similar 3-2 scores.
In another match, Al Diar Gulf Hotel overcame the Club Greens 13-9 in the same round but remained at the bottom of the table.
In the Division Two league, Zadco registered a 17-6 win over the Club Blues and Adma Opco-One defeated Adgas 14-9.
Gasco defeated Adco-two 20-3 and Fertil scored an 18-6 win over Adma Opco-Two in the division-three competition.
