Sharjah: Hosts Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) made a clean sweep, winning all five competitions at the end of the third Sharjah Ladies Club Women's Sports Festival that concluded late Thursday.

Nada Al Naqbi, Manager, Sports Department, SLC was joined by Abdul Aziz Ali Al Hussan, Head of Clubs and Sports For All at the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare (GAYSW) and UAE Shooting Association members Sahar Al Obaidand Hamda Al Shamsi.

On the final night of the championship, the SLC team overran Iranian Club 60-9 to complete the clean sweep by topping the basketball competition. Zayed University Dubai came in second best with a 43-9 win against Sharjah Islamic Bank in the other match.

Settle for second

The basketball competition was played on a single round-robin format and at the end of four matches, hosts SLC won all their games while Zayed University Dubai had to settle for second following a loss against the hosts.

The shooting competition was also conducted on the final day with Amal Mussallam, Abdullah Al Humaidi and Sakeena Mukhtar shinning in the three categories.

Mussallam outdid a field of 14 shooters to win the Rifle competition with a score of 377, leaving Saleem Al Naqbi (376) and Rajaa Khalid (370) in second and third places respectively.

Mussallam had visits of 96, 94, 92 and 95 for her winning total, while Al Naqbi made a slow start with rounds of 93, 94 and 94 before finishing strongly with a 95. Khalid had opening and closing rounds of 94, but was undone in the middle two rounds with identical 91s.

Al Humaidi took the gold medal in the Seniors Pistol competition with rounds of 96, 92, 91 and 92 for a total of 371, leaving Yaqoob Ali in second with a total of 364, while Zainab Aklaq and Salwa Saeed finished in third and fourth respectively with identical totals of 362.

Sakeena Mukhtar topped the Juniors Pistol competition to finish ahead of Abdul Rahman Mohammad and Hamdan Surour. Mukhtar had rounds of 92, 81, 87 and 92 for a total of 352, while Mohammad and Surour ended in the next two positions with totals of 349 and 337 respectively.
