Dubai: Athens gold medallist Shaikh Ahmad Mohammad Hasher Al Maktoum and Shaikh Saeed Bin Maktoum Al Maktoum will represent the UAE in the Beijing Olympic Games, to be held from August 8-24.

The decision was arrived at the National Olympic Committee (Planning Committee) meeting earlier this week. Shaikh Ahmad will bid to defend his double trap gold while Shaikh Saeed will take part in the skeet event.

Shaikh Ahmad gave the UAE its first Olympics gold when he won the double trap shooting event in the 2004 Athens Olympics as the first gold medal. The UAE has been participating in the Games since the 1984 in Los Angles.

The National Olympic Committee also accepted the participation of Shaikha Latifa Bint Ahmad Al Maktoum in equestrian.

The NOC has decided to send an athlete and a swimmer, to be named later, for the Games apart from leaving the door open for three other events like judo, taekwondo and sailing.

The decision will be taken later based on the results of the NOC's qualifying standards.
