Hemmes Jr was announced as a coach to Clijsters last month, while former coach Carl Maes will combine his post of director of the Kim Clijsters Academy with an advisory role along with physiotherapists Sam Verslegers and Matthijs Van Speybroeck.

One of three wildcards in Dubai, Clijsters will be making her comeback on the WTA for the second time in her career. The 36-year-old has three children – daughter Jada (11), and sons Jack (7) and Blake (4). This is also the first time Clijsters is playing in the Dubai event.

Clijsters will be looking to add to her trophy haul after her voluntary break. Her first Grand Slam singles was at the 2005 US Open, and she followed this up with another two titles in 2009 and 2010, while her fourth major crown came at the 2011 Australian Open
