IPL 2020 in UAE: Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad — in pictures

MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings went into battle with David Warner's Sunrisers Hyderabad in Dubai on Tuesday with both sides desperate to pick up the two points as they attempted to keep in touch with the gathering bunch above them at the top end of the Indian Premier League table.

Chennai won the toss and opted to bat first, with Rashid Khan leading the attack for Sunrisers.

CSK were rocked by the early departure of Faf du Plessis for a duck, but managed to get some decent scores on the board as Sam Curran (31), Shane Watson (42) and Ambati Rayadu made inroads into the Hyderabad bowling attack.

When Rayadu fell for 41, it was up to captain Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja to put on a challenging score.

However, Dhoni failed to fire again as he walked on only 21 runs, while Jadeja managed to put on an unbeaten 25.

Dwayne Bravo chalked up Chennai's second duck of the innings but CSK managed a strong finish to reach a total of 167-6 in their 20 overs.

While it was not nearly the highest target in the IPL, Sunrisers also struggled to get their innings going.

Things were looking up for Chennai as David Warner fell for nine runs, and Manish Pandey could only manage four.

Jonny Bairstow fared slightly better as he put on 23 before being bowled - 59-3 after 10 overs and the required run rate was getting steep.

Sunrisers' Kane Williamson took it upon himself to try to dig his team out of the hole they were in, but when Priyam Garg fell for 16, the task looked beyond reach.

Next in was Vijay Shankar, and he finally struck Hyderabad's first six of the evening. But it was a short visit to the middle as he was back in the pavilion with 12 off seven balls as the RRR crept above the 15-run mark.

CSK finally got the key man as Williamson fell for 57 off 39 balls, and the uphill struggle became mountainous for Sunrisers. Shardul Thakur took the catch on the boundary.

Rashid Khan tried his best, but he fell for 14, leaving Sunrisers needing 22 off the final over, and Chennai were celebrating a 20-run victory as Bravo bowled a brilliant finale, giving up only a single, to take the points.
