IPL 2020 in UAE: Dhoni delight as Chennai Super Kings beat KKR on last ball — in pictures

MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings were out to salvage some pride against Eoin Morgan's Kolkata Knight Riders in Dubai as last year's finalists - bottom of the pile this season - looked to dent KKR's play-off hopes.

Dhoni won the toss and opted to field first, but KKR were flying as opener Nitish Rana piled on 87 runs off 61 balls.

Rana was assisted by fellow opener Shubman Gill (26) as KKR set their sights on a big total.

However, when Lungisani Ngidi removed Rana, the KKR run rate slowed.

Ravindra Jadeja also got in on the act, but KKR still managed to put on 172-5 in their 20 overs.

Chennai knew they would need to be at their best to chase down their target, and opener Ruturaj Gaikwad gave them the perfect platform to build on.

Gaikwad piled on 72 from 53 balls but Shane Watson fell early for 14 runs.

Ambati Rayudu came in at No. 3 to help sustain the chase in a match that was nip-and-tuck all the way.

After Rayadu and Gaikwad fell, it was looking good for KKR.

And Chennia skipper Dhoni once again failed to inspire with the bat as he walked with only one run to his name.

However, KKR did not count on the heroics of Chennai No. 6 Jadeja, who smashed an unbeaten 31 off 13 balls, including two sixes off the last two balls, to see CSK to a six-wicket victory.

The win takes Chennai up to more respectable 10 points and deals a huge blow to KKR's chances. They need a lot to go their way to reach the play-offs. Mumbai Indians have also officially qualified with this result.
