The familiar faces of Van Dijk, Salah and Firmino may have been missing but the Liverpool faithful were in fine voice nonetheless

Shrewsbury were up for the fight, and gave their all in every challenge

There was heartbreak, however, for Shrewsbury Town's Ro-Shaun Williams as he put the ball into his own net to give Liverpool the lead

To add to the visitors' anguish, Shaun Whalley thought he had given Shrewsbury the lead, but his header was ruled out by VAR for offside

So it was left for Liverpool's history makers to start the celebrations as the game ended 1-0

The faces on the young Liverpool players told the story as they lapped up the adulation from the supporters.

Critchley got in on the party action too as he made sure Liverpool would be in the next round, where they will face Chelsea. Klopp will be sure to be back in the dugout for that one, and his side will be at full strength too.
