9 times Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut spilled the tea on social media

Love her, loathe her, but you cannot ignore her — certainly not on social media. Microblogging site Twitter may have suspended Kangana Ranaut’s account, but she goes on unfazed on Instagram.

The self-proclaimed “mother of all fathers”, says she will continue to regularly speak her mind through social media. From nepotism to politics, Ranaut’s tweets continue to grab headlines. As the actress turns 35 on March 23, we take a look at the numerous occasions she has spilled the tea online.

TWITTER THRASHER: In 2021, before her own Twitter ban, Ranaut decided to send a tweet to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a ban on Twitter. Writing in Hindi, the Bollywood star told the PM that he should not repeat the same mistake made by Indian warrior Prithaviraj Chauhan and that mistake was accepting an apology. She added that no matter how many times Twitter apologises, he should never forgive them. “They conspired for a civil war in India #BanTwitterInIndia.”

MERYL STREEP, GAL GADOT? BRING ‘EM ON: Ranaut decided her talents were on par with Hollywood legend Meryl Streep and ‘Wonder Woman’ star Gal Gadot. Some may call it narcissistic but Ranaut didn’t hold back as she wrote: “Massive transformation alert, The kind of range I display as a performer no other actress on this globe has that right now, I have raw talent like Meryl Streep for layered character depictions but I can also do skilled action and glamour like Gal Gadot.. “I am open for debate if anyone can show me more range and brilliance of craft than me by any other actress on this planet I promise to give up my arrogance....”

STEP ASIDE TOM CRUISE: Who can forget the time when Ranaut decided she was a bigger action star than Tom Cruise. Posting an interview of Hollywood stunt director Nick Powell, who choreographed action sequences in 'Braveheart', 'The Gladiator' and the Tom Cruise-starrer 'The Last Samurai', she stated that even he acknowledged her action prowess. In the interview, Powell had reportedly stated Ranaut “pulled off smoother stunts than Tom Cruise” in her film, ‘Manikarnika: Queen of Jhansi’.

RIHANNA WRECKING: When international pop idol Rihanna threw her weight and celebrity behind the farmers’ protests in India with a tweet condemning the internet shutdown in protest areas along Delhi’s borders, Ranaut saw red. “Why aren’t we talking about this?! #FarmersProtest,” tweeted Rihanna, with a link to a news article about the internet ban in several border districts of Delhi. While most people on Twitter hailed the ‘Don’t Stop The Music’ singer for taking a stand and her tweet was widely-shared, Ranaut was quick to school the pop idol. “No one is talking about it because they are not farmers they are terrorists who are trying to divide India, so that China can take over our vulnerable broken national and make it a Chinese colony much like USA … Sit down you fool, we are not selling our national like you dummies,” tweeted Ranaut.

THE TAAPSEE PANNU TIFF: “Her only achievement is it be a sasti [cheap] copy.... since she styled herself like me people started noticing her, librus [liberals] r happy to find not just sasti also atrocious, ugly and more than willing to be anti national as well, Never saw such a wannabe, desperate and clueless moron,” Ranaut had tweeted about actress Taapsee Pannu, who chimed in support of the farmers’ protests in India.

LAMBASTING THE ‘LIBERALS’: When Ranaut felt that a certain political agenda was rooting for her suspension on Twitter, she didn’t hold back. “Whole libru [liberals] lobby is desperate to get my account suspended, Raat ko kehte honge, so ja nahin to Kangana tweet kar degi [They must say at night, go to sleep otherwise Kangana may tweet], this is the effect of Kangana Ranaut on the strongest lobby in this nation. Jo political parties ko hila dete hain maine unko hila diya [Those who shake up political parties are left shaken by me]. Ha ha good night friends.”

DEEP DISMISSAL: Kangana Ranaut employed social media once again earlier this year to take a not so subtle dig at Deepika Padukone and her latest film ‘Gehraiyaan’, which released in February on Amazon Prime Video. While the movie drew a mixed bag of reactions, Ranaut, who has taken digs at Padukone in the past, took to her Instagram Story to post a message about new age films. “I am also a millennial but I identify and understand this kind of romance…in the name of millennial/new age/urban movies don’t sell trash pls…bad movies are bad movies no amount of skin show or pornography can save it …it’s a basic fact koi gehraiyaan wali baat nahi hai (there’s no deeper meaning to this) [sic],” posted Ranaut..

PROTESTING ON PROTESTS: In November last year, a police complaint had been filed against Ranaut for reportedly using derogatory language against the Sikh community on Instagram. The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee lodged a complaint against the actress in response to comments on her Instagram story, where she deemed the farmers protests in India were an act of terrorism. “Khalistani terrorists may be arm twisting the government today... But let’s not forget one woman... The only woman prime minister ne inn neechee crush kiya tha... [crushed them under her] No matter how much suffering she caused to this nation... she crushed them like mosquitos at the cost of her own life...,” posted Ranaut, while referring to late Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

CRY FREEDOM: In November last year, (it was a busy month) Ranaut faced calls for her arrest following her controversial Instagram comment about India’s freedom struggle, which led to her stating that she will return her Padma Shri honour if someone can prove her wrong. The controversy began after Ranaut said that India attained freedom in 2014 when the Narendra Modi-led government came to power and described the country’s Independence in 1947 as “bheek”, or alms. The actress defended her stance through a series of comments on her Instagram Story later, claiming that what she said was “fact”, while sharing what she claimed were excerpts from a book. “Just to set the records straight. Everything is very clearly mentioned in the same interview 1857 first collective fight for freedom… along with sacrifice of greats like Subhash Chandra Bose, Rani Laxmibai and Veer Savarkar ji. 1857 I know but which war took place in 1947 I am not aware, if someone can bring to my awareness I will give back my Padma Shri and apologise also… please help me with this [sic],” posted Ranaut, while naming some of India’s freedom fighters who took on the British to help the country gain independence.
