1. Godolphin wins

Masar, the horse that was bred by Godolphin and trained in Dubai during the winter, won the prestigious Epsom Derby last week, and videos of Godolphin founder His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai and Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, went viral.

2. #SaveWaterforPak

A looming water crisis in Pakistan became one of the top social media trends this week, with several users highlighting the fact that Pakistan ranked third among countries facing water shortage. Pakistan’s Supreme Court also took suo motu notice of the crisis after the public reaction it generated.

3. Reham Khan

A new book by Pakistani journalist and ex-wife of politician Imran Khan stirred controversy, particularly after she got into a Twitter war with Hamza Ali Abbasi, an actor and Imran Khan supporter.

4. Coconut Bae

Social media went gaga over a milkshake vendor in Mumbai, India, for his unique style of pouring coconut milk. The video of his work, posted by a Facebook page called Street Food Recipes was watched over 1.2 million times.

5. Swara Bhaskar

In an interview promoting her latest film, Indian actress Swara Bhaskar called Pakistan a ‘failing state’ when answering a question on the country banning the release of the film. Tweeps were quick to react, sharing videos of her earlier interviews where she was all praise for Pakistan during her visit to the country.

6. Honour killing victim’s father organises iftar

In February, a 23-year-old man, Ankit Saxena, was murdered by his Muslim girlfriend’s family for being in an inter-faith relationship with her. Since the murder, his father has urged both communities to not use the murder as an excuse for more violence. This week, he organised an iftar in memory of his son, which quickly became a trending topic on social media.

7. Pakitan’s watermelon boy

The picture of a young Pakistani man, Mohammad Awais, cutting a ‘tarbooz’ or a watermelon, on the streets of Karachi, Pakistan, went viral, with social media naming him the ‘tarbooz wala’, much like the ‘chai wala’ [tea seller] who gained fans on social media in 2016.
