He wore his American flag pin upside down
The White House press secretary sparked some concern during a White House press conference on March 10, during which he wore his American flag pin upside down. It seemed like an accidental wardrobe malfunction, but an upside-down flag is an officially recognized sign of distress.
According to news reports, Spicer was handed a note by Omarosa Manigault Assistant to the President and Director of Communications for the Office of Public Liaison at the White House, before he started taking questions. Then he fixed his pin in a couple of tries.
Twitterati was quick to respond. One of the first responses came from the account for Netflix’s political thriller House of Cards. They had used the upside down flag in a recent season five promo.
