Dubai: The UAE heat spikes during the summer months of July and August, with temperatures in the desert even reaching into the early 50s °C.

Previous data recorded by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) in Dubai from 1977 to 2016 revealed the maximum temperature for June was 47.9°C, 48.5°C in July, 48.8 °C in August and 45.1°C in September.

Studies also showed that the hottest temperature recorded in the UAE was on June 2, 2015 in Sweihan at a scorching 51.2°C.

Last Tuesday, between 1-4pm, the NCM saw temperatures in the UAE peak to 49.4°C in Mezaira. The other top four highs were recorded at 48°C in Al Jazeera, 47.9°C in both Mukhariz and UAE University in Al Ain, and 47.8°C in Quaa.

Over the next few days, residents can expect a rise in temperature with more hot and hazy weather and an increase in humidity.

The weather on Wednesday and Thursday will see maximum temperatures range from 40-44°C in coastal areas, 42-47°C in internal areas and 33-38°C in the mountain region.

Northwesterly to northeasterly winds will blow across the region at a speed of 12-22 km/h in the coastal area, which may reach 32 km/h at times.

“By Friday, low clouds will appear eastward that may become convective by afternoon. There will be light to moderate northerly winds, which will cause dust to blow over exposed areas,” said the NCM.

The sea will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in the Oman Sea.
