Dubai: Contrary to media reports, not everyone in Abu Dhabi can benefit from a 25 per cent discount in traffic fines and parking violations.
The Traffic Court of Abu Dhabi clarified that while motorists can claim a discount for the total cost of fines, the percentage was not set at a unilateral rate of 25 per cent.
“The procedure in determining the per cent of the discount is judged on a case-by-case basis, according to the motorists’ traffic fines,” said Abu Dhabi Traffic Court.
On July 23, Abu Dhabi’s traffic court initially announced that motorists who commit traffic violations in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, including Al Ain and Al Dhafra region, can have the cost of their fines reduced.
• Pay your traffic fines in installments
Motorists were instructed to first visit the Customer Happiness Centre at Abu Dhabi Police Headquarters and present the relevant documents, including the Emirates ID card, driving licence and car registration.
The second step involves visiting the fines department, where officials will hand a printout of unpaid fines to motorists. A fom will then have to be filled out in order to transfer the list of traffic violations to the traffic court.
The next day, applicants should visit the main building of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate to confirm that the application was approved.
The last step requires motorists to then hand over the application to the traffic court, and pay off the fines at a discounted rate.
