This is making my life miserable. Because of this, I keep forgetting everything. Please advice.

Dr Sreekumar V. Nair replies: From your question, I understand that these thoughts come to your mind against your will, causes a lot of distress and takes away lot of your time. This could happen in a variety of conditions. To give a diagnosis I need more information. Like what triggers or in what situation the thoughts occur, what happens or what do you do during and after the thought occurs, do you try to resist the thoughts and if so what happens?. With the available information, what you have is obsessive thoughts. This is usually a part of obsessive compulsive disorder. In this, one could have repeated intrusive thoughts that spark distress. This can be effectively treated using medication and behaviour therapy. Since the information is insufficient, I advise you to consult a psychiatrist for an evaluation.
