Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution has ordered on Monday the arrest and prosecution of three social media personalities for endangering their lives and lives of other road users as they performed 'Kiki dance' on the road.
A statement from the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department stated they have violated the public order and used the social media sites to promote practices that are incompatible with the values and traditions of society.
In the last three days, the hashtag #Kiki was trending on social networking sites that mimics Canadian singer Drake’s popular music video for “In My Feelings”.
The idea behind the Kiki Challenge is to leave the car while it's slowly moving, open the door and dance outside while the vehicle is still moving and driving itself.
The prosecution said that participation in the so-called "Kiki Challenge" constitutes a crime punishable by law. It may invite imprisonment or a fine under the Federal Penal Code and Law No. 21 of 1995 regarding traffic law.
Authorities pointed out that the participants in this challenge of getting off the car while moving and leaving the door open and dancing on the public road next to the car poses a danger to the person and other users of the road.
In addition to the fact that this behavior is contrary to the values of the UAE community and constitutes a violation of public morals.
Judicial department officers have the right to arrest any person who has been found doing this.
The department also warned of spreading such negative phenomenon and asserted that young people should engage in useful activities that are compatible with the values of the society and contribute to physical, social, mental and moral developments.
They should avoid blind imitations. It called on celebrities of social networking sites to show a sense of responsibility towards children and the society.
Authorities in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and other emirates also warned residents against an online dance challenge that has taken social media by storm.
