A number of people in Sharjah have recently fallen victim to scammers who claimed to be celebrities and prominent members of the community. Once the con artists were granted access to the social media accounts of residents, they then launched a scam to obtain money from victims.

“Do not interact with fake social media accounts and if you have, immediately report the incident to police. Do not interact with them any further.”

Sharjah Police also added that social media crimes fall under the authority of the Cyber Crimes Department, who constantly monitor the internet to reduce scams and various types of cybercrimes, including blackmail.
