Abu Dhabi: The Embassy of Malaysia in Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with the Consulate General of Malaysia in Dubai, hosted a reception on the occasion of the 61st National Day of Malaysia, 55th Malaysia Day (formation of Malaysian federation) and 85th Armed Forces Day, on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi.

About 300 guests, including senior UAE Government officials and diplomats, attended the event.

Syed Mohammad Hasrin Aidid, Ambassador of Malaysia to the UAE, highlighted the expanding bilateral relations between the UAE and Malaysia in trade, investment, defence and people-to-people relations. He said Malaysia and the UAE share so many similarities and commonalities, particularly in technology, sustainable development, tolerance and happiness.

Following the 14th general election in May 2018, the new Malaysian Government looks forward to strengthening existing close bilateral ties between the two countries for mutual benefit, the envoy said.

The Malaysian diplomatic team in the UAE brought glimpses of Malaysia to Abu Dhabi with an array of activities and exhibits during the event. Chenderawasih, a cultural troupe with six dancers from various backgrounds performed different traditional Malaysian dances for over 40 minutes, to the audience’s delight.

Guests were also served a variety of mouthwatering Malaysian dishes such as satay, nasi lemak, ayam percik, beef rendang, char kuetiau and mee goreng mamak. The popular Malaysian milk tea beverage Teh tarik, and 11 varieties of Malaysian fruits, was also served at the reception.

A pavilion at the event promoted Malaysian education, health, trade and investment. Six artists, including three young talents, displayed their artworks portraying synergy and influence from both cultures.
