Patna: Two teenage girls were allegedly gang-raped by 11 men in Jharkhand after their bike developed a technical snag at an isolated place.

Police have arrested all the 11 accused, who are being held in custody.

The incident took place in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga district last week, but was only reported to the police over the weekend.

As per reports, the victims were travelling on a bike when it got stuck in a roadside ditch full of water in the evening of August 16, and would start despite their efforts.

As a last resort, one of the victims called up her friend in the village and asked him for help.

Acting promptly, the boy sent around a dozen friends to help the girls in crisis.

On reaching the spot, however, they took the girls to an isolated place and raped them one by one.

The accused also snatched the cell phones of the victims so that they could no contact anyone for help and fled the scene after committing the crime.

The victims reported the incident to their parents when they returned home late at night. Subsequently, a case was registered with the police at the weekend.

Police later formed a special team for investigation and finally arrested all the accused persons on Sunday based on information provided by the victims.

“We have arrested all the accused persons and sent them to jail,” a local deputy superintendent of police Ashish Kumar Mahli told the media today.

This is the second such gang rape in the past one fortnight.

Earlier on August 3, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by 11 persons in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district.

The teenage girl was returning home after tending goats in the evening when some men bodily lifted her and took her to a nearby jungle where they raped her one by one until she fell unconscious.
