Patna: A young girl in Bihar has received widespread praise after her bravery led to the arrest of three robbers who were holding her parents at gunpoint.

According to reports, eight armed robbers arrived at the nursing home of Dr Hemant Kumar Jha in Patna in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Posing as patients, they requested for immediate medical attention complaining of respiratory problems.

As an attendant tried to contact the doctor, who lives with his family on the upper floor of the nursing home, the well-dressed robbers held him hostage and forced him to open the door to the doctor’s residence.

They tied up the hands of the doctor and his wife and went on a looting spree.

As they were busy collecting cash and valuables from the room, the doctor’s pet dog began furiously barking, which left the robbers jittery.

They tried hard to control the dog but couldn’t.

Meanwhile Dr Jha’s daughter Nitika, who was also being held hostage, asked the robbers to allow her to lock the dog inside another room lest it would harm them.

When they allowed her to do so, she instantly went downstairs with the dog, after locking the main door to the residence from outside, and called local police officials from a patient’s cell phone.

When police arrived, they surrounded the nursing home from all sides.

However, by the time the police officers made it to the home, five of the robbers had already fled with cash and valuables by breaking open the main door that Dr Jha’s daughter had locked. Three others were still inside the house.

“I sent a team of local police which surrounded the place from all sides and arrested three robbers who were armed,” Patna’s senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaj said.

He said the police team also freed the doctor couple.

Police are now conducting raids in search of the absconding suspects.

However, the doctor family is still living in panic since the robbers declared they would return to their home before fleeing the scene.
