Dubai: Dubai's busiest commercial districts, including Downtown Dubai and Deira, have introduced a variable tariff system for public parking. Instead of a fixed rate, parking fees now fluctuate based on demand, with higher charges during peak hours - 8am to 10am and 4pm to 8pm, while off-peak tariffs, from 10am to 4pm and 8pm to 10pm, remain unchanged.

If you regularly park in areas like Downtown Dubai, Business Bay, Deira, or Jumeirah, you may have noticed the introduction of new premium parking spaces. These are marked by white and blue signboards and feature parking codes ending with ‘P’, such as ‘345CP’. The updated signage clearly displays peak and off-peak timings along with their respective charges. The key change is that parking during peak hours now starts at Dh6 for the first hour.

Free parking is still available overnight from 10pm to 8am, as well as on Sundays and public holidays.

Where are the premium parking zones in Dubai?

Dubai's new Variable Parking Tariff Policy, introduced by Parkin on April 4, has changed how public parking fees are structured. Under this system, parking charges are higher during peak hours, and premium parking spaces are more expensive than standard parking.

Premium parking zones, which are located in high-demand areas, are identified by a 'P' zone code and marked with white and blue signboards. These zones can be found in:

  • Business Bay

  • Downtown Dubai

  • Naif

  • Al Fahidi

  • Al Wasl

  • Sheikh Zayed Road (from Dubai World Trade Centre to Umm Al Sheif)

  • Jumeirah (main road)

  • Al Barsha 1

Public parking fees in premium areas

Public parking in Dubai is divided into four main zones - A, B, C, and D. Premium parking spaces in these zones have a ‘P’ added to their codes (e.g., AP, BP, CP, DP) and are marked with distinct blue and white signboards to differentiate them from standard parking.

Here’s a breakdown of the new parking fees:

Zone A

  • Standard Parking: Dh4 per hour (peak and off-peak)

  • Premium Parking: Dh6 per hour (peak), Dh4 per hour (off-peak)

Zone B

  • Standard Parking: Dh4 per hour (peak), Dh3 per hour (off-peak)

  • Premium Parking: Dh6 per hour (peak), Dh3 per hour (off-peak)

Zone C and Zone D

  • Standard Parking: Dh4 per hour (peak), Dh2 per hour (off-peak)

  • Premium Parking: Dh6 per hour (peak), Dh2 per hour (off-peak)

Why are these areas considered premium parking zones?

Parkin defines premium parking as spaces located in high-demand areas, particularly near public transport hubs such as metro and bus stations, central business districts, and major shopping destinations. These locations are chosen based on their proximity to public transport, typically within 500 meters of a metro station, as well as their high parking occupancy during peak hours. Areas with significant density and congestion, such as markets and commercial zones, are also considered prime spots for premium parking.

Standard parking zones

Not all areas in Dubai fall under the new premium parking classification. Some parking spaces retain their existing A, B, C, and D zone codes without the ‘P’ addition. Standard parking zones include:

  • Al Nahda 1 & 2

  • Al Quoz 1, 2 & 3

  • Al Rashidiya

  • Al Mamzar

  • Abu Hail

  • Nad Al Hammar

  • Al Qusais

Grand Event Parking Zones

Another important category for motorists to watch out for is Grand Event Parking Zones. These temporary parking zones are introduced during major events, festivals, exhibitions, or conferences to manage increased demand. Parking fees in these areas are adjusted during events, and updated tariff signboards will be in place.

Examples of events where these special parking rates may apply include GITEX, Gulfood and other major exhibitions at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC)
