Dubai: If you are a student in Abu Dhabi who regularly uses public buses, you can save money by purchasing an annual public transport permit. Issued by AD Mobility, Abu Dhabi’s official public transport authority, this permit provides students with unlimited free travel within the emirate, including Abu Dhabi city, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra (excluding intercity bus services).

Cost and validity

  • The student permit costs Dh500 and is valid for one year.

  • The associated Hafilat personalised card has a validity of 16 years.

How to apply for a student permit

To obtain the student permit, you must first apply for a Hafilat Personalised Card, which is available for students, seniors, and people of determination. This card is linked to the holder’s Emirates ID and offers subsidised transport rates. It also allows for balance transfers in case of loss or damage.

You can purchase public transport permits at the following locations:

  • Sales and Recharge Machines (TVM): Find machine locations on the Darbi website: darbi.itc.gov.ae

  • Customer Happiness Centres at bus stations

Renewal process

To renew the student permit, visit the nearest Customer Happiness Centre at a bus station with the following documents:
