Dubai: Deciding where to study can be an overwhelming choice. Not only do you have to pick a career path and programme, but also consider the university’s location, affordability, housing and networking opportunities.
With university increasingly seen as a place to network, learn life skills and build happy memories, student housing options can be a big factor in deciding where you would like to study.
Nearing five decades of rapid growth as an economy and international hub, the UAE now has a knowledge ecosystem of almost 95 universities offering a range of degree options - from cybersecurity to fashion design – available to UAE nationals, expatriates and international students.
There are options such as on-campus dorms or designated private providers for those looking to study in the UAE.
Are there any COVID-19 guidelines I need to be aware of?
According to the latest guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education (MoE) in July 2021, only vaccinated students will be allowed to reside in student accommodation and according to the approved physical distancing procedures in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Different types of housing options for students
UAE has 93 universities accredited by the Ministry of Education and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) that offer various options for housing - in-campus or off-campus, or even partnering with student accommodation providers to facilitate the process for students. Students also have the option to contact private accommodation providers in the UAE, which provide special packages for university students.
Most of these private housing options are also often located near academic clusters or hubs in the UAE like the Dubai International Academic City, Dubai Knowledge Park and University City in Sharjah.
How much would it cost?
The annual fee ranges from Dh15,000 to Dh50,000 per year and you can expect all accommodations to be furnished with basic necessities.

Dubai
Dubai is home to 49 accredited higher education institutes. They offer accommodation that ranges from approximately Dh25,000 to Dh50,000 per year and are concentrated in two designated free zones – Dubai International Academic City and Dubai Knowledge Park.
Dubai International Academic City
Dubai International Academic City (DIAC) houses a dynamic community of 20 MOE-accredited universities. It has a catering and food complex named the Food Court that has a wide range of food options for all students studying in the area.
Amity University Dubai
Type: In-campus accommodation
Capacity: 265 students
Types of room: single occupancy, double occupancy
Fees: Dh40,000 per year for single rooms, Dh25,000 per year for twin rooms.
A discount of Dh5,000 is applicable for all double occupancy rooms for the academic year 2020-21.

Fees: Dh15,000 per semester, including a facility fee of Dh750 and security deposit of Dh2,000.
