    Ramadan rules 2021: Iftar, meal distribution guidelines announced

    UAE’s authorities highlighted social behaviour guidelines that need to be followed

    Sharing iftar meals or participating in big social gatherings has been strictly disallowed by UAE’s authorities for the month of Ramadan.

    In a press briefing on April 6, the National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA) highlighted guidelines for social behaviour during Ramadan this year. These are the rules that were announced:

    Suhoor, iftar - It is only allowed to have suhoor and iftar with members of the same family, who live in the same house.

    •	Socialise and meet with people virtually, through social media platforms. •	Avoid attending Ramadan majlis (gatherings at home) during the night.

    •	Stay away from large gatherings at places associated with Ramadan activities, like Ramadan markets and crowded shops. •	Ramadan tents are not allowed.

    Ramadan meal distribution - Individuals It is strictly forbidden to distribute iftar meals in front of homes and those who wish to do so can contact charitable organisations in the UAE or restaurants.

    •	Do not share food between families or neighbours. •	Do not send food to mosques or share it.

    Ramadan meal distribution – Organisations that distribute food are only allowed to do so in open spaces where social distance is maintained.

    Organisations have been asked to prepare food while maintaining the highest hygiene standards and to ensure the health and safety of the volunteers and workers.

    Volunteers and workers have been advised to wear a mask at all times, and ensure they distribute packaged meals in single-use, disposable food packs. Even when the food is transported, it should be in customised bags or boxes.
