Abu Dhabi: It is not a summer camp. Nor is it a workshop or a techno club. It is The District – a micro city designed to offer a cool hangout option for young adults in the age group of 14 to 22 years.

Open from August 18 to September 17 at the Du Forum on Yas Island, The District has five zones – The Alley, The Street, The Block, The Park and The Yard – each with its own unique set of activities to encourage innovation among teenagers.

Whether the youth are gadget freaks, gaming addicts, jamming specialists, movie buffs, street art enthusiasts or just creative brains wanting to explore – The District is where they can discover themselves and explore new possibilities.

Hard to please

“Young adults are hard to please. During summer, they are the ones who are the most ignored as there are not many events curated for them,” said P.J. Toncev, general manager of ExtraCake, oraganisers of The District.

Toncev said, “The concept was designed as a miniature city that will capture the imagination of teenagers. It is their world. It is urban in setting and has all the coolest hangout options that a teenager has dreamt of.

“What we are trying to do is empowering the youth to try different things, explore new possibilities, get exposed to new knowledge that may spark a new career idea or a hobby or a passion.” In addition to the daily doses of excitement and entertainment, special guests and celebrities will be roped in by The District for weekly live performances. The District is open daily from noon to 10pm. Tickets cost Dh100 for a weekday pass and Dh175 for a weekend pass.

Here’s what the five different zones are about:

The Alley: For gadget freaks who love to explore all things tech. From robotics, video games, hardware and science labs to demo sessions, murals and skype conferences, expect a variety of workshops and events.

The Street: Has a multi-purpose theatre featuring special events, jam sessions, live local bands and DJs, Prof X talks, life hacking, comedy skits, film screenings, cross-fit sessions, drum circles etc.

The Block: For creative minds. Offers master classes, photography, video and film making, industrial design, graphic and 3D design workshops.

The Yard: The UAE’s finest local entrepreneurs can be found here. The zone is also the place for mouth-watering meals.

The Park: You can just chill while charging your phone, or flip through a comic book, or try table-top gaming, music on-demand, and more.
