This year saw several weddings and many bust-ups. Suparna Dutt D'Cunha shines a spotlight on the most talked-about relationships.

They said their "I do's" in style. Their weddings were the stuff of fairy tales — opulent, star-studded soirees. As for happy-ever-after endings, we'll just have to wait and see. Aishwarya-Abhishek

When and where: Wedding on April 20 at Prateeksha, Amitabh Bachchan's bungalow in Mumbai, India. Three-day event.

Wedding dress: Ash wore a traditional Banarasi silk lehenga (long, richly-embroidered skirt) designed by Neeta Lulla. Neeta Lulla, Abu Jani, Sandeep Khosla and Sharbari Datta also designed outfits for the bride and groom.

Wedding pictures sold?: No. Amitabh told a friend, "My son's wedding is a very private, solemn and precious moment for me and my family." But the internet was flooded with hazy images and videos obviously taken by guests on their mobile phones.

Famous guests: Ajay Devgan and Kajol, Sanjay Dutt, Riteish Deshmukh, Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia.

Gossip fodder: Bigwigs of Bollywood like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra, Rani Mukerji, Kareena Kapoor and ex-girlfriends/boyfriends such as Salman Khan, Viveik Oberoi and Karishma Kapoor were not invited.

Previous partners: Abhishek was earlier engaged to actress Karishma Kapoor and also had an affair with Dipannita Sharma. Aishwarya had a much-publicised relationship with actors Salman Khan and Viveik Oberoi.

Their ages: Abhishek, 31. Aishwarya, 33.

Eva Longoria and Tony Parker

When and where: Wedding on July 7 at Château de Chantilly, north of Paris. Parker thought 07-07-07 was a lucky date. The church wedding was held at the Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois in central Paris.

Wedding dress: Parker wore a black tuxedo designed by Yves Saint Laurent's Hedi Slimane. Longoria also wore a couture Angel Sanchez mermaid gown made of silk wool, with silk gazar metallic embroidery, a scoop back and a long train.

Wedding pictures sold?: Yes. To OK! magazine for $2 million (Dh7.34 million) after a bidding war with People magazine.

Famous guests: Teri Hatcher, Nicollette Sheridan, Felicity Huffman, Brenda Strong, Jessica Alba and Sheryl Crow.

Gossip fodder: Longoria gave away 18-carat gold bracelets to all her female guests at her wedding.

Previous partners: Eva Longoria had a relationship with Stephen Kay, JC Chasez and was married to Tyler Christopher from 2002 to 2004.

Their ages: Longoria, 32. Parker, 28.

Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake

Happier days: Diaz and Timberlake started dating shortly after they met each other at the 2003 Kids' Choice Awards.

Unhappy ending: They announced their split in January 2007.

Break-up catalyst: Apparently Timberlake's decision to cast Scarlett Johansson in his music video for What Goes Around.

Post-breakup partners: Justin Timberlake has moved on to Jessica Biel.

Their ages: Timberlake, 25. Diaz, 34.

Gossip fodder: Justin reportedly said Cameron was "just too clingy".

Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar

When and where: Wedding on March 9-11 at Umaid Bhawan Palace, one of India's finest luxury hotels, in Jodhpur, India. At her English-style wedding in Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire, Sir Elton John gave Liz away and performed a personalised version of Your Song.

Wedding dress: Hurley wore a stunning off-white chiffon dress by Donatella Versace for her English wedding. Tarun Tahiliani and Anamika Khanna also designed some dresses for Liz. For the Indian wedding, she wore a sari. Indian designer Rohit Bal designed Nayar's coat and its mini version for Hurley's 4-year-old son, Damian.

Wedding pictures sold?: Yes. Hello magazine bought them for an estimated £2million (Dh14.62 million).

Gossip fodder: The couple faced a legal case accusing them of violating Hindu practices during their wedding in Rajasthan. Arun Nayar's 66-year-old father Vinod Nayar said he was evicted from the wedding venue in Jodhpur.

Previous partners: Liz Hurley had a long relationship with Hugh Grant and has a four-year-old son with producer Steve Bing, Arun Nayar was earlier married to Valentina Pedroni, a former model.

Their ages: Arun Nayar, 43. Liz Hurley, 41.

Pamela Anderson and Rick Salomon

When and where: Wedding on October 6 at Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas

Wedding dress: Pam wore a denim Valentino dress…wash and wear!

Wedding pictures sold?: Yes, to Britain's OK! magazine for $1.4 million (Dh5.14 million)

Famous guests: Tobey Maguire, Lukas Haas and Anderson's children.

Gossip fodder: Rick is the co-star and producer of One Night in Paris, the Paris Hilton sex tape, from which he is said to have earned millions.

Previous partners: Anderson was previously married to rockers Tommy Lee and Kid Rock and Salomon was briefly wed to Charmed actress Shannen Doherty.

Their ages: Anderson, 40, Salomon, 38

Kate Moss and Pete Doherty

Happier days: Kate Moss met Doherty at her 31st birthday party. The have dated off and on for two years, forming a great, perpetually drugged-up couple in PeteMoss. Their relationship has been marked by news of them getting married in Phuket, Ibiza and in the Chapel of Love during Glastonbury in 2005.

Unhappy ending: It seems they're contractually obliged to break up at least once every 15 milliseconds!

Break-up catalyst: Moss found out Pete had cheated on her with a young brunette model from South Africa. Moss took her daughter Lila Grace and headed off to Paris.

Post-breakup partners: Moss is dating Jamie Hince.

Their ages: Moss, 33. Doherty, 28.

Gossip fodder: The supermodel apparently had a spat with boyfriend Jamie Hince over her ex, Doherty. Moss told him she might sing with Doherty's band Babyshambles on stage.

Parting shot: "Unfortunately, we have decided to end our relationship. It is an amicable parting, and we greatly value the three years we have spent together. We hope everyone will respect our privacy through this difficult time."

Hugh Grant and Jemima Khan

Happier days: Hugh Grant started dating Jemima soon after the end of her marriage to Pakistani cricketer-politician Imran Khan.

Unhappy ending: They announced their split in January 2007

Break-up catalyst: A close source told the News of the World: "Jemima's had enough of Hugh not committing. She can only put up with so much. She still loves him but he's just like the ageing bachelor character he played in About A Boy."

Post-breakup partners: None that we know of.

Their ages: Grant, 46. Jemima, 33.

Gossip fodder: Their split became public on the same day Liz Hurley (Grant's ex-girlfriend) and Arun Nayar announced their wedding.

Parting shot: "Hugh and Jemima have decided to split amicably," Grant's publicist Robert Garlock told People magazine.

Drew Barrymore and Fabrizio Moretti

Happier days: The Strokes drummer and Barrymore met backstage at a Strokes show in California in 2002.

Unhappy ending: They were together for five years and broke up twice earlier.

Break-up catalyst: "He's younger, and she's more worldly," said a source of Barrymore to Us Weekly magazine. "He doesn't like the Hollywood stuff. He doesn't get her friends."

Post-breakup partners: Barrymore is seeing actor Justin Long, earlier she had a relationship with Scrubs actor Zach Braff. Moretti was romantically linked with Spider-Man star Kirsten Dunst.

Their ages: Barrymore, 31. Moretti, 26.

Gossip fodder: Tongues first wagged when Barrymore skipped the February 2005 wedding of Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas. Months later, the duo had in a public tiff in Santa Monica, California.

Parting shot: "Our lives took different directions with all the love and respect in the world," Barrymore said at The Late Show with David Letterman.

Kareena-Shahid-Saif

Indian actors Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapur, who were being seen as the ultimate couple, broke up this year. Saif Ali Khan, a hugely popular actor with several relationships behind him, came between the couple. Kareena and Saif came close while shooting for Yash Raj Film's Tashan. As for Shahid, we hear that he is seeing sizzling tennis player Sania Mirza.
