To get good photographs of a mother and her newborn child, you don’t have to hire a professional photographer. Just get the tricks right and let your husband do the job.

Professional photographer Arthur Edwards shares some tips to get the right pictures.

Lighting: If the room is dimly lit, don’t even think about using the camera flash. Babies aren’t fond of it. Better to use natural light by opening a window.

Timing: When the baby is feeling uneasy or looking grumpy, don’t use the camera to capture the moment. Click the baby’s picture after he or she has been fed. While the baby is sleeping is also a good time for taking nice shots.

Focus on firsts: It is not necessary that all the things around the child are pretty and attractive. There are times when they get attached to a particular thing such as an old stuffed toy. Make sure to take photos with that, as it is the first thing your child got attached to.

Change background: Use varied backgrounds to make your photos stand out. Place a cushion underneath the baby to make the shot look a bit different.
